Sun Valley Branch Library and Community Center

Located in Sun Valley, Colorado.

The Sun Valley Branch Library and Community Center is a technology based library, which features public recreation spaces for Sun Valley residents and students of the Sun Valley School District. This library was designed for the concept of unity, thus focused around the shape of unity, the hexagon. This design concept is seen throughout the building, including the central technology space, the exterior ceramic and glass panels, and the double sided vestibule seen on both ends of the building. The library was designed on an axis that runs straight from its neighboring elementary school, to the walking path on the west side of the Colorado river.

Sun Valley is a low income community built on brownfields just outside the city of Denver. The main goal of this project was to rehabilitate the neighborhood of Sun Valley with a communal center point within the town that encourages education and social recreation.

The Sun Valley Branch Library encourages social interaction within its community.

The site features a bus drop off area, playground, basketball court, community garden, and a amphitheater. The axial approach attempts to create walking and bicycle paths from the community to each space of the library and its site. The library also features sculptures and other artwork on the interior and exterior of the building.
