Hartford Highline Masterplan
A view from Bushnell Park stair and ramp.
The Hartford Highline is a conceptual redesign and masterplan of the Asylum Hill area in Hartford, Connecticut. The main concept was to connect the two parks, Liam E. McGee Park in Asylum Hill, and Bushnell Park in Downtown Hartford, with an elevated park spanning over main roads. The elevated park strip reroutes pedestrian circulation from the busy roads while adding retail, food, and a community center to Asylum Hill. A reconstructed traffic circle, which forces continuous flow of cars, was added to help reduce commute times into Downtown. The Hartford Highline adds needed retail space, restaurants and markets, residential town houses and apartment complexes, and a community recreation center.
This was a group collaboration project that spanned over two months. The goal of this masterplan project was to learn how a community interacts with the architecture and site it is built upon an develop a masterplan while collaborating with teammates and sharing ideas. The project was a massing and topography model.

A masterplan helps define the developmental goals that a community desires. It creates in infrastructure in which a town or city can be built upon.
